Town accepts woodblock print of local poet Clyde Sanborn for library display

The La Conner Town Council voted to accept a donated woodblock print depicting local poet Clyde Sanborn and approved the Arts Commission’s recommendation to place the artwork in partnership with the town library.
Cynthia Elliott, chair of the Arts Commission, presented the donation and read an artist statement describing Clyde Sanborn as a local poet who lived in the Skagit River Delta and who drowned on March 15, 1996; the Arts Commission recommended the council accept the piece and the council approved the donation by motion and voice vote.
Elliott said the commission is working with the library to hang the print for public viewing and noted other residents have expressed interest in donating artwork. Councilmember Joel made the motion to accept the piece, a fellow councilmember seconded, and the council approved the donation.
The council did not attach conditions to the acceptance; staff will coordinate delivery and installation with the library and the Arts Commission.
