Adam, representing city staff and the fire department, told the council that Jesse Pearson began service as a volunteer reserve with the City of Chehalis on Oct. 10, 2024, completed the Lewis County Regional Fire Academy in May and recently transitioned into a full‑time firefighter‑paramedic role. Adam said the department’s volunteer reserve program helped produce a full‑time career firefighter “in such a short period of time.” He welcomed Jesse and his family to the community.
The council also observed the retirement of Captain Rob Gebhardt. In a tribute read at the meeting, staff noted Gebhardt’s 38 years of service to Chehalis, including two stints as interim chief and long‑term work as the department’s training officer. The plaque presented lists service dates from March 11, 1987, to June 21, 2025. Captain Gebhardt addressed the council and family members, saying, “It's been an honor and a privilege.”
During the public‑comment portion of the meeting, resident Mary Kat Jones asked for an update on an RFP and the status of any annexation or merger talks with Fire District 6. A city representative replied that conversations regarding potential cooperation or merger with District 6 are ongoing and that responses to an RFP have been received and are under review; the city will notify the public about next steps after the review is complete.
