Northampton energy commission votes to cosponsor Sunday Action Fest; organizers plan fall clean-energy fair

Lello said the event will include tabling, presentations and outdoor displays and is intended to connect residents with programs such as Electrify Northampton East Hampton, energy-advocate Hannah Davis and nonprofit partners. “The sun can power the valley,” Lello said, framing the fair as an opportunity to familiarize residents with weatherization, electrification and other local resources.
Commission members discussed formats that would include a panel, short presentations and staffed information tables. Ideas raised included a timeline of past city milestones, a panel on building-code and multifamily retrofit work, student participation from Smith College, and tours or demonstrations of retrofitted homes. Commissioners suggested a mix of a staffed NESC table with supporting print or QR-linked materials and one or two scheduled presentations during the event.
The commission then considered formal cosponsorship. A motion to adopt language naming NESC as an official cosponsor was moved, seconded and approved in a roll-call vote with all members present voting yes. The commission did not adopt a detailed program at the meeting; organizers and commissioners agreed to meet again to assign tasks and finalize logistics.
Why it matters: Commissioners said the fair can raise public awareness of city programs and grants that many residents do not know about and provide a simple way for the commission and partner organizations to answer questions directly.
Next steps: Commissioners asked staff and volunteers to compile a timeline, a short set of talking points and a one-page handout or QR-linked summary for the event. Organizers will reconvene before September to confirm tables, presenters and a final schedule.
