The City of Lewistown Commission voted to approve a business license for Big Dog Solar, an electrical contractor that installs photovoltaic panels and related electrical work.
City Manager Holly Phelps explained that local ordinance requires commission approval for certain business licenses. Commissioners asked whether private enterprises must submit customer recommendation letters; Phelps said such letters are not required under current city licensing rules, but the city can revoke licenses through a commission process if complaints arise or business practices are unsatisfactory.
The commission moved and approved the license on a voice/roll-call vote. Commissioners noted that entities hiring contractors should request references directly from firms when procuring private services.
