Committee forwards MOU with Parks and Recreation District for maintenance of three bridges

The Administration and Finance Committee on June 23 voted to forward to full council an ordinance authorizing the mayor to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Greater Huntington Parks and Recreation District to maintain three bridges located on city streets.
Sam Ramsbottom, assistant city attorney, said the proposed MOU covers the Whitaker Boulevard Bridge, the Madison Avenue Bridge and the Harvey Road Bridge. "This agreement allows the city to utilize the park's property in order to undertake the maintenance and management of these bridges, including cleaning, painting, and repairs," Ramsbottom said. He added that all three bridges are located on city streets, abut park district property and are subject to future renovations by the West Virginia Department of Highways.
Ramsbottom told the committee the arrangement is similar to a memorandum the city passed last year for maintenance of a bridge on Twelfth Street. The committee moved the ordinance to full council with a favorable recommendation; the motion was made by Miss Holly and seconded by Jason Arthur and approved by voice vote.
If approved by council, the MOU would permit city crews or contractors to use the parks district's adjoining property while performing routine upkeep and management tasks on the listed bridges.
