The Seattle City Council passed legislation July 8 authorizing the Department of Transportation to execute and record a deed of trust that reflects the leasehold estate rights of the Cultural Space Agency at King Street Station.
Council member Saka, chairing the transportation committee report, said the action implements an earlier 2023 authorization at a transactional level and enables a $485,000 grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce to the Cultural Space Agency. "This is enablement legislation, to enable that," Saka said, noting the grant condition required the city to provide the deed of trust.
The bill references an earlier ordinance and passed unanimously on a 7-0 roll call. Council President Sarah Nelson asked the clerk to affix her signature to the legislation. The measure authorizes SDOT to record the deed of trust if the agreement with the Cultural Space Agency is executed.
Council members offered no recorded objections; the committee recommended approval and the full council adopted the measure to permit the Cultural Space Agency to better occupy and operate in the historic King Street Station.
