NVTA staff told the Planning and Programming Committee on Oct. 3 that the Authority will begin discussing its 2023 legislative priorities at an Oct. 13 meeting, with protecting dedicated regional revenues identified as the top legislative objective.
“I would note that we have an authority meeting on October 13, and we are going to start talking about our 2023 legislative program,” said Miss Patton, NVTA staff, who briefed the committee. Patton said protecting the Authority’s dedicated revenue stream is the foremost priority and that several localities have already reached out with suggestions for legislative priorities.
Patton also told the committee the Authority would receive an update on concessionaire-funded projects tied to the Transform 66 agreements, noting the nine-mile segment between Prince William and Fairfax County has opened and that staff will report on remaining concessionaire-funded work ahead of full opening in December.
Patton said the Authority seeks to recover an outstanding balance of $38.5 million that would help replace about $102 million that staff said was diverted in 2018; committee members did not take formal action on the matter during the meeting.
What’s next: The Authority will consider legislative priorities at its Oct. 13 meeting and will receive further updates on Transform 66 project status as the December opening approaches, per Patton’s briefing.
