Plano city staff announced that a contractor has begun replacing malfunctioning radio transmitters attached to water meters, and customers should see daily usage appear online within five to seven days after a unit is replaced. Steve Stoler, staff member, provided the update.
The devices are a gray box mounted to the meter that uses a radio signal to send hourly meter readings, Stoler said. He told residents a company identified in the announcement as Pedal Valves is performing the replacements and that each replacement takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
Stoler said, "Water meters are working properly." He said all Pedal Valves workers will carry proper identification, there will be no disruption to water service, and customers will not see a change on their bills. Stoler added that the City is replacing units at businesses and that faulty units should be replaced by early 2026.
Customers should be able to view daily water usage five to seven days after a replacement at plano.gov/waterbill, Stoler said. He closed by noting the City will provide further updates through its regular "Stoler on the Street" communications.
No formal action or vote was recorded during the announcement; the remarks were an operational update from city staff.
