Maricopa County offers free resume workshops; human services reports hundreds served

Maricopa County Human Services Department runs a walk-in resume workshop that offers one-on-one help with resumes, interview practice and job-search assistance for residents, the county said.
The workshops, offered in English and Spanish and requiring no enrollment or eligibility, are run by the county’s workforce development team to help residents update resumes and match applications to employer expectations, Workforce Development Trainer Sonia Ruiz said.
The program is designed to reflect current employer needs, staff said. "Keeping your resume up to date is crucial to land your next big gig," Ruiz said. Trainers also review how résumés are read by applicant tracking systems and give tips for interviews, county staff said.
Maricopa County’s workforce development team said the Human Services Department helped 369 people through the resume workshop last year. So far this year, 280 residents have participated, the county said.
A workshop participant described the experience as personalized. "The career adviser that I was with, he knew what I needed. The trainers actually cared to see that I could actually fit my resume to what I was looking for, and the licenses that they said, this is what you need," the participant said.
Maricopa County’s workforce development team also provides job-search assistance and labor market information to participants. For more information, the county directs residents to maricopa.gov/wdd.
