NVTA opens FY30–31 call for projects; launches bike-and-ped funding study

NVTA staff said the call for projects is accepting applications through Aug. 1 for fiscal years 2030–31 of the authority's six-year program. "Application portal closes August 1," Sri, an NVTA staff member, said, noting the portal closes at 5 p.m. Resolutions of support from governing bodies are due Oct. 31 at 5 p.m., staff said.
Why it matters: Projects must be listed in NVTA's TransAction long-range plan to be eligible for NVTA funding, staff reminded committee members. Localities that plan to request NVTA funding in this cycle will need accurate, consistent project descriptions that align with TransAction to avoid eligibility problems.
Bike-and-ped funding study
NVTA staff said the authority has been asked by legislative leaders to examine funding options for regional bike and pedestrian facilities. Staff described the study as using VDOT's recent inventory of bike-ped facilities and gaps as a starting point and said the work will proceed through the summer with stakeholder and jurisdiction staff input, with a likely conclusion in late fall.
Staff said the study will explore potential funding sources and will coordinate with local jurisdictions through the regional jurisdiction and agency coordinating committee and a stakeholder group. The work is in its early stages, and staff said they will provide further details as the study progresses.
