Franklin council approves small fire department grants, records recusal on equipment quote

"This is just a refund that came back a couple of years ago ... $284 I just like put back in maintenance and not maintenance, but supplies like cleaning supplies," Snyder said during the meeting. The council opened and closed a public hearing on the item and approved it by voice vote.
Snyder also presented a $4,800 grant described as from the Johnson County Community Foundation and REMC to purchase new weight equipment for Station 21. "This is a grant I went after ... It's $4,800 to purchase new weight equipment For Station 21," he said. Council member Sean recused himself from the vote, saying he works for the company that provided a quote for the equipment; the transcript shows the council noted the recusal and proceeded. The motion to approve the grant passed on a voice vote with Sean recorded as recusing himself.
Finally, the council approved use of $5,577.90 from the Francis Melton Memorial donation for fire training. Snyder said the fund was set up years ago for the department to use for training and the request was to send personnel to classes. The council opened and closed a public hearing on that item and approved it.
No public speakers addressed these three items. One council member noted a conflict on the equipment quote and did not vote on that item; no further debate or conditions were recorded in the transcript.
