Several Germantown residents told the Public Safety Committee on July 7 they oppose placing a combined public‑safety building at Kinderberg Park and asked the village to consider other village‑owned parcels and previously completed studies.
Skye Duffly of Old Farm Road said Kinderberg would be “as unpopular as you can possibly imagine” and asked whether the village had compiled prior property research, consulting reports and cost work into a single reference. Jan Miller, a 30‑year resident on Windsong Circle West across from Kinderberg Park, said the village had recently invested about $300,000 in a new playground and roughly $25,000 in gates and that residents do not want the park repurposed. An email from Bill and Carol Schneider, accepted into the record, opposed Kinderberg and suggested the former flower source site instead.
Why it matters: Kinderberg Park was discussed because staff said it is one of the few village‑owned parcels large enough for a combined facility. Staff clarified they are not recommending the park; trustees debated the tradeoffs between using existing village land and acquiring private parcels served by sewer and water.
Speakers also asked for a consolidated list of village‑owned properties and prior analyses. Trustee Morst asked staff to provide an updated inventory of village parcels, and Trustee Pieper requested school district property lists as well.
Ending: The committee did not approve any motion to study Kinderberg Park separately; that option was among several proposals the committee rejected in favor of a limited re‑examination of prior plans.
