Kingsport school board unanimously renews Superintendent Hampton’s contract

Kingsport City Schools Board of Education members voted unanimously July 8 to renew Superintendent Dr. Hampton’s employment contract after reviewing a draft provided by the city attorney.
Board members told the meeting they had received and reviewed the proposed contract in advance. The board chair said the draft had come from city attorney Bart Rowlett and that Dr. Hampton had also been given a copy to review.
“There were no items for discussion on that contract,” the meeting record shows, and a board member moved to approve the renewal; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously. After the vote a board member thanked Dr. Hampton “for everything that you're doing, for our staff and for our administrators and educators and mostly, again, our students.”
No changes to the superintendent’s duties, term length, salary figures, or other contract specifics were discussed on the public record during the meeting; the board indicated only that members had reviewed the draft and voted to approve it.
The approval was announced during the board’s regular business meeting; there were no public comments on the superintendent contract during the allotted public-comment period.
The board’s next scheduled work session is July 22 and the next regular meeting is Aug. 12, when any follow-up or related personnel items would appear on the agenda.
