The Simsbury Planning Commission on June 19, 2025, voted unanimously to adopt and endorse the final draft of the Tariffville Neighborhood Plan, dated June 19, 2025, as amended at the meeting.
The plan provides a long-term vision and implementation framework for the Tariffville village and fulfills the neighborhood-plan action item in the town's 2017 and 2024 Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD), commission members said.
Planning staff told the commission the final draft incorporated only minor grammatical edits and an introductory letter from the commission chair since the earlier presentation with the consultant. Staff also said graphics were improved and that many participating Tariffville residents who were involved in the process expressed satisfaction with the outcome. "The motion carries unanimously, and the plan is endorsed," the commission chair said after the vote.
Commissioners and staff outlined next steps to move the plan from endorsement to implementation. Staff said they will prepare printable copies, post the plan on the town website, and make electronic versions available. The commission agreed to a community outreach phase over the summer and a September implementation-prioritization process that will include an open-house format and a dot-exercise for resident ranking. Staff said they will assemble a table or worksheet listing candidate actions and potential ranking metrics for the September work session so commission members and town departments can evaluate what is achievable and financeable.
Commissioners emphasized the need to keep priorities realistic and tied to funding and operational constraints; one commissioner noted citizens’ preferences must be balanced against what town staff and public works can practically manage. The commission did not change policy at the meeting beyond endorsing the plan and setting the public-engagement and prioritization steps.
Staff also suggested giving local real estate professionals access to the plan as an overview of Tariffville's future improvements and work to provide printed copies for residents who request them. The commission closed the meeting after confirming staff would post the endorsed plan online and circulate copies to interested parties.
