The La Porte Plan Commission voted to approve a preliminary and final plat for the J and B Subdivision, a two‑lot resubdivision at Second Street and Colfax Street petitioned by Byron and Julie Eigeman, with approval conditioned on final staff review of the surveyor's final plat.
The commission's approval follows a presentation by petitioner representative Dave Ambers and a staff recommendation. Ambers told the commission, "Yes. I'll make it brief. It's such a small, plat." David Heinold, city staff, said, "staff does recommend approval of the proposed 2 lot subdivision because it conforms to the guidelines set forth in chapter 82, article 5 of the City Of La Porte Municipal Code."
The plat, shown at the meeting as the J And B Subdivision, would leave the existing remodeled single‑family dwelling on Lot 1 and create Lot 2 immediately to the east for a new house. Heinold told commissioners the proposed Lot 2 would meet the minimum lot width for the zoning district at 80 feet. He also described the longest lot line dimensions shown on the map: the east line would measure about 146.5 feet and the west line about 118.6 feet. Utilities are already in place at the site, and the existing road will be used; a new driveway will require review and approval by the engineering department.
Ambers and staff asked the commission to condition approval on the city's technical review of a final plat from the surveyor. Ambers explained he had not yet received the final surveyor drawings and asked that the commission's approval be subject to the city's review when the documents are submitted. Heinold confirmed staff would review the final document for technical compliance.
The public comment period produced no speakers. After brief discussion among commissioners, a motion to approve the plat, conditioned on final staff review of the final plat, carried on a voice vote. The commission's action was described at the meeting as approval of the plat; staff noted the next steps include any required recording and administrative steps under the City of La Porte process.
The commission did not take separate action on design details, setbacks or site engineering at this hearing; those items will be resolved through the required technical reviews and any subsequent permitting processes.
