The Inyo County Board of Supervisors on June 24 approved a letter of support for a request to the U.S. Department of Defense seeking an F‑18 flyover at the Overlanding for Warriors veterans‑support event scheduled near Veterans Day 2025.

Why it matters: Flyovers at veterans events require Department of Defense approval and a local sponsor letter. The event’s organizers said the flyover would be a veterans tribute and that the event raises funds for veterans causes.

Public Works staff introduced the request and asked the board to authorize the chair to sign a letter of support to accompany the DOD application submitted by the event organizer. A board member moved to sign the letter; the motion was seconded and approved unanimously.

Board members and staff thanked volunteers and county personnel who assisted in preparing the request; the organizer said he would continue to coordinate with county staff and the Department of Defense on the application.

Next steps: County staff will sign and transmit the letter of support as part of the DOD application for the requested F‑18 flyover.
