At the public-comment portion of the July 8 Cobb County Board of Commissioners meeting, a retired correctional officer told commissioners he believes he was promised a $1.30 detention-pay differential when hired for a part-time crew-chief position and said the pay was not reflected in his statements.
Warren Seegers (pronounced "Seegers" in his remarks), who said he is a retired correctional officer, described working as a part-time crew chief and handling work with multiple inmates. He told the board that his hiring paperwork listed a pay rate "plus an additional 1.3 for detention pay" but that later his supervisor told him "you're part time. You don't get 1.3." Seegers said he was told the payroll statements had been sent to his personal email but he did not receive them.
At the close of Seegers's three-minute comment period, the chair asked if anyone from human resources could speak with him and the meeting record shows the chair directed "Jim" (the HR manager) to follow up: "Jim, if you don't mind speaking with him about that matter. Thank you." The clerk then closed public comment.
Why it matters: the speaker requested a personnel/pay clarification and a staff follow-up; the meeting record shows HR was asked to look into the matter, but no board action or vote occurred during the meeting.
Follow-up: the transcript indicates the HR manager was present and was asked to speak with the commenter after the meeting; no outcome was recorded on the public transcript.
