The College Place Economic Development, Tourism and Events Commission voted July 7 to approve the city’s comprehensive economic development strategy and proceed with filing it with the U.S. Economic Development Administration for review.
Commission staff reported the plan — presented after a workshop with the city council — incorporated minor updates requested by council and one amendment to the SWOT analysis previously recommended by the commission. The public review period closed July 2 with no public comments received, staff said.
Mister Saldanha told the commission the city will submit the finalized strategy to the Economic Development Administration (EDA), which will review the filing and may return administrative comments; from his experience those are typically non-substantive. The commission then moved to approve the comprehensive economic development strategy; commissioners voted in favor and the motion passed.
Staff said the plan is scheduled for formal adoption consideration by the College Place City Council the following night; after EDA review staff will make any changes the agency requests.
The approved strategy updates participant and staffing identification in the document and lists the interim city administrator in the plan’s staffing references. The commission received the strategy, approved it for filing with the EDA, and expressed appreciation to staff and consultants who participated in the drafting and review process.
