The City of Springfield License Commission dismissed a customer complaint June 25 filed by a buyer identified as Miss Williams against Car Guys Auto Recyclers LLC, doing business as Springfield Auto Recyclers, 148 Tempe Street. Alan Bartlett, manager of record, appeared for the business.
Miss Williams alleged multiple undisclosed defects after purchase and said the dealership failed to repair promised items. Bartlett and the business said the vehicle was a 13‑year‑old $2,000 purchase and contended the buyer had put more than 10,000 miles on it in eight months and that much of the vehicle’s condition resulted from use after purchase. Bartlett described a prior effort to address emissions and said staff attempted to assist.
During the hearing the exchange became heated; Bartlett offered to work with the buyer and suggested the buyer could return the car and title and allow the dealership to resell it, after which a resale or other arrangement could be negotiated. Commissioners ultimately moved to dismiss the complaint, noting the confrontation and the difficulty of resolving disputed factual claims in the licensing hearing. The dismissal does not preclude civil action by the complainant.
The board advised the parties that a face-to-face meeting might resolve outstanding matters but that any monetary claims likely require court action.
