Derek, an economic development staff member, updated the Moorhead Economic Development Authority on multiple development items in downtown Moorhead.
Derek said active demolition is under way on several parcels to make room for downtown infrastructure work and new projects; he noted imminent demolition of the former Everest Tika House property and ongoing work on Minnesota Avenue, Red River Avenue and Third Street traffic staging. He also said Downtown Chiropractic is expected to move into a new facility at 650 Center within about a month.
On real-estate marketing, Derek said Goldmark Commercial became the city's real-estate partner for the Makara Bridal Estate Services property as of July 1 and that Goldmark representatives are expected to brief the EDA at a future meeting.
Derek described recent outreach to federal and state contacts: a delegation including Moorhead leaders traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet with Minnesota and North Dakota legislators and with DG Fuels leadership; Derek said he will attend a Sustainable Aviation Fuel workshop in Minneapolis where DG Fuels will be present. He also reported that Moorhead participated in the League of Minnesota Cities conference in late July.
Derek said the city held public hearings on May 27, June 9 and June 23 and that the city council approved three projects: Fourteenth and Main Apartments (a Renaissance Zone project), Speedy Oil Change (commercial/industrial), and Remodeling by Foss (commercial/industrial). Derek said Goldmark Commercial will soon present marketing materials for city-owned land.
No formal EDA vote was recorded during the report; items were provided for information and upcoming engagement.
