Resolution to preserve Cheyenne Gunslingers’ location fails for lack of second

A proposed resolution directing that plans for the Fifteenth Street corridor revitalization preserve the Cheyenne Gunslingers’ existing location, layout, buildings and landscaping at West 15th Street and Pioneer Avenue did not advance after a motion to approve received no second and the resolution died in committee.
Sponsor Councilman Mark Moody said the resolution sought to keep the Gunslingers at their current spot because the group and its buildings are a long-standing downtown attraction that draws visitors year-round. Supporters in public comment urged the council to preserve the current location, noting the group is volunteer-run, solicits sponsors, maintains its property and brings tourism benefits. One commenter told the committee the Gunslingers operate at no cost to the city and provide cultural and economic value to downtown businesses; another commenter urged caution and asked the council not to preclude future corridor improvements that might better serve the group.
Committee members asked whether the resolution would bind future councils; the sponsor said it would remain in effect until the council acted to change it. After public comment the chair called for a motion; a member moved to approve but no one seconded, and the resolution died for lack of a second. The committee made no recommendation to the full council.
