Board presenters said Hazel Health services are provided through a sponsorship arrangement involving UnitedHealthcare and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS). The service is voluntary and requires parent consent; districts already using Hazel Health include Durham and Harnett counties, presenters said.
Officials said Hazel Health can deliver services at school or at home and can provide an iPad and wireless hotspot for families that lack devices or connectivity. The program is intended to tie into the district's broader mental-health plan and to create referral pathways for students needing longer-term care through local partners.
The board was told the contract had received legal review, that materials had been uploaded to BoardDocs, and that approval would allow the district to implement the service for the upcoming school year. A motion to approve the Hazel Health agreement passed unanimously after a second.
