Commission approves Augusta Volunteer Rescue Squad building addition on county property

The Hampshire County Commission on June 10 approved the Augusta Volunteer Rescue Squad’s request to remove a small storage building on county property and replace it with a larger addition.
Planning staff explained the rescue squad will still go through the county building permit process and inspections; the county does not charge other county entities for permit fees, but the permitting and inspection requirements remain in force. The commission approved the site work and building addition request by motion and voice vote. Planning staff presented a site map and the squad’s plan to replace the existing storage building to the east of the main rescue station.
Commissioners said the approval will allow the volunteer squad to proceed with their planned improvements on county property. County staff noted that the permit process and inspections will ensure code compliance and safety.
