The Hampshire County Commission reported Tuesday that a draft deed has been prepared to transfer ownership of the volunteer EMS building at Capon Bridge to the county, with the town holding first right of refusal if the county later ceases EMS use.
President Englund said county counsel drafted the deed after the board voted earlier to change the existing lease and put ownership of the building in the county while providing the town of Capon Bridge the right to inherit the building at no cost if the county later abandons EMS use.
“...that just transfers ownership ... back to the county commission to use it to provide EMS,” President Englund said, explaining the draft deed had been forwarded to the town’s mayor for council consideration. The deed also provides that if the county does not use the building for EMS in the future, ownership would revert to the town of Capon Bridge, Englund said.
Englund said the deed is in the hands of the other parties and that, pending their agreement, the commission would be ready for a signing. He did not report any vote at the meeting; instead, he said the document had been drafted and sent to the town for consideration.
No timetable for final approval or public hearing was set at the meeting, and commissioners said they would return to the subject in later business if needed.
