Summer events move to Sixteenth Street Park as Ramona Garden Park undergoes rehabilitation; foundation raises about $22,000

Assistant City Manager Erickson summarized events including a six-concert summer series at Sixteenth Street Park (June'August), Grover Beach Night Out with a drone light show and family activities, a Stone Soup Festival coordinated with the Clark Center in August, and fall events including a Sept. 5 movie night and the Sept. 14 Dune Run 5K. Erickson said the Ramona Garden Park project will install an inclusive playground, new restrooms, an event lawn, seating and a band shell.
Jeff Lee, representing the Grover Beach Community Foundation, said the foundation'led "Your Park, Your Legacy" fundraiser has sold roughly 60 commemorative 4x8 pavers and one bench, raising about $21,000'$22,000 so far. He said commemorative items will be installed by the park contractor and the foundation will increase outreach now that construction is underway. Lee encouraged the council and staff to promote fundraising at the Stone Soup Festival and local media.
Commission Chair Anita Schauer accepted a council proclamation designating July as Parks and Recreation Month and encouraged residents to track the park renovation progress online; she said Ramona Garden Park will be branded "Grover Beach, California" on completion.
Councilmembers thanked staff and volunteers for events planning and the foundation for fundraising; staff said there is no fixed deadline for paver purchases but estimated installation timing around August when bricks will be placed. The band shell naming opportunity is offered for a multi-year recognition; price or formal deadline was not specified at the meeting.
The council received the update; staff and the foundation plan further outreach as construction proceeds.
