Council approves Stephenson Fund donations to local charities; one councilor recuses

City Clerk Jody Schneider presented the Teachers Warehouse request and said the Stephenson Fund was established in 1928 by Charles Stephenson’s bequest for charitable, educational and library purposes. The council approved a $500 award to Teachers Warehouse of Johnson County; roll-call votes recorded Kushner, Osborne, Latari, Jones and Mueller (Euler presiding) as voting yes.
The council also considered a 2025 request from the Johnson County Cancer Foundation. Councilor Schneider recused herself from that vote, noting she is a board member and sponsor of the foundation. Council approved the request; the meeting record shows the motion passed with the remaining councilors voting yes. The transcript did not state the donation amount for the cancer foundation during the public reading.
