The Franklin Municipal Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of an ordinance rezoning 19.43 acres at 408 Century Court from Civic Institutional (CI) to Heavy Industrial (HI), allowing the Williamson County justice system campus to continue and pursue facility enhancements.

Staff told the commission the Industrial Flex design concept does not generally support new heavy industrial uses, but that the justice campus is an existing use and the HI zoning is the only district that permits correctional facilities. Staff recommended approval because the rezoning would maintain the campus’ current operations and allow improvements consistent with the site’s institutional function.

No members of the public spoke on the item and no representative of the applicant provided a presentation. By roll call the commission recommended approval to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

The recommendation forwards a zoning change only; any specific facility improvements will require subsequent site‑plan review and building permits and must comply with applicable development and engineering standards.
