Sen. Sabrina Solis Matinani, legislative secretary of the 30th Guam Legislature and chair of the Committee on Health and Veterans Affairs, presented legislative certificates of recognition July 2025 to players, coaches and organizers of the second Y Impact Invitational basketball tournament.
The tournament, held June 18–20, 2025 at iLearn Academy Charter School, featured age divisions from 10 to 18. “These young athletes didn't just dribble, they dazzled,” Sen. Solis Matinani said as she called winners to the front to accept certificates.
The Committee on Rules certified the committee's official expression of recognition and commendation, which the senator said was signed and sealed in July 2025 by the legislative officers listed on the certificate. Solis Matinati read the names of athletes and coaches from the winning teams and recognized the Guam Select U18 team, U15 division winners, U13 division winners and U10 division winners, along with coaches and organizers.
Sen. Solis Matinati described the tournament as “a slam dunk for sportsmanship, community, and youth empowerment,” and thanked players, coaches, parents and volunteers for participating and organizing the event.
The recognition focused on community and youth development rather than legislative policy or funding. The senator said the certificate was cosponsored by her office and that a separate presentation would be scheduled for the MVP Stars girls U18 team if they were not present for the ceremony.
The presentation concluded with congratulations to individual players named during the ceremony and an exhortation to continue pursuing teamwork and sportsmanship on and off the court.
