The Hocking County lodging-tax administrator reported to commissioners on July 3 that the county has 2,138 known lodging units and 616 registered lodging businesses, of which 588 are current with taxes and 28 are delinquent.
The administrator said 20 businesses on the delinquent list were considered long-term delinquencies (defined in the report as six months or more). The June report also showed 10 newly registered businesses and seven renewals in the month.
The administrator told commissioners the office is cooperating with the prosecutor's office on collection efforts, including sending letters to the most delinquent operators and setting up payment plans. The opening of the Mulberry Hotel was noted; the administrator said counting of rooms from that hotel is underway and will raise the total lodging-unit figure when fully incorporated.
Commissioners thanked staff for ongoing collection work and for coordination with the prosecutor's office; no vote was taken on the report.
