Mentor City Council approved Ordinance No. 25-068 on July 1 authorizing the city manager to enter into a labor agreement on behalf of the city with the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association (OPBA) representing sergeants and lieutenants.
City staff said the negotiated contract is the city’s final outstanding labor agreement and that the union’s membership ratified the agreement prior to the council meeting. Council approved the ordinance by roll call and declared it an emergency.
Staff described the contract as a balanced agreement but did not provide the full contract terms during the meeting; council authorized the city manager to execute the agreement on the city’s behalf.
Next steps: city administration will execute the contract documents and implement terms through Human Resources and the police department as required by the agreement’s provisions.
