Resident asks board for update on Underground Railroad statue; parks director says artist engagement ongoing

Judy Shuck asked the Westfield Parks and Recreation Board on July 2 whether there had been progress on the design of an Underground Railroad statue planned for a park on the city's west end.
"I was just wondering if there was any progress on the design of the underground railroad statue that's going in the park on the West End there of 32," Shuck said during the public-comments portion of the meeting.
Chris, the parks director, replied that staff is still working with "Gang Gang" and that there has not been a recent update. "We haven't had an update recently, but I will get an update for you. And as soon as I have one, I will send it to you," Chris said.
No board action was taken; the exchange occurred during public comment and staff said it would follow up with Shuck when there is new information.
