Unidentified city official, a city official, told the Montgomery City Council that Montgomery opened the Crump Senior Community Center, the Chisholm Community Center and the Sheridan Heights Community Center in the first half of the year, and that Fire Station 10 and a new entrance to the Montgomery Zoo are recent milestones.
The official said the city expects additional upgrades to community centers and parks, and invited residents to a free July 4 Riverfront Amphitheater celebration from 8 to 9:30 p.m., with fireworks along the Alabama River and a band from the Alabama Army National Guard. The official reminded attendees that a clear-bag policy is enforced at city events and warned that setting off fireworks elsewhere inside the city limits is illegal.
The official called attention to July as Extreme Heat Awareness Month and urged residents to stay hydrated and check on vulnerable neighbors. The official also invited the public to a July 10 meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Montgomery Interpretive Center to review pedestrian safety proposals for Carter Hill Road and College Street, noting the area connects schools, transit stops, businesses, Huntington College and Alabama State University and has dangerous crossings and limited sidewalks.
Finally, the official promoted the free Move MGM color run on Friday, July 19, at Buddy Watson Park, including packet pickup on July 18 from 3 to 6 p.m., race-day check-in at 7 a.m., and a free run shirt for the first 400 registrants who pick up packets. The official encouraged registrants to donate to the Heart of Alabama Food Bank when registering.
The transcript records announcements and invitations but does not document council decisions or funding approvals for the projects and events described.
