The Lawrence County Board of Commissioners on June 17 approved a series of routine and grant-related items, including flood-plain permits, appropriations and transfers, grant agreements, a hiring for animal-control services and the appointment of an acting county administrator.
At the start of the meeting commissioners voted to approve minutes from the June 10 meeting and then approved flood-plain permits submitted by the Soil and Water Conservation District. The board approved appropriations and transfers dated June 17 both under and over $75,000; the agenda split transactions by that threshold and identified Dylan Bentley, county administrator, and Parker Rowe, director of finance, as submitters.
The board approved appropriations tied to a CDBG grant agreement with one recorded abstention. Commissioner Finley was recorded as abstaining on the motion approving appropriations dated June 17 in accordance with the CDBG grant agreement; Commissioners Holiday and Copley voted yes.
Commissioners also approved a resolution to become a local participant in the Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission 2026 local participating funds program; authorized hiring Jessica Malone as full-time pound keeper and allowed the acting administrator or the shelter director to complete hiring steps; and approved a resolution submitted by the Lawrence Economic Development Corporation to apply for the "bridal industrial park program." The record shows the hiring and the economic-development resolution passed unanimously among the three commissioners.
The board appointed Chris Cline as acting administrator while County Administrator Dylan Bentley is expected to be out following the birth of his child; the board also granted the administrator/acting administrator authority to approve and sign legal documents that may be due before the next meeting. Commissioner Copley congratulated Bentley and said the county appreciated Chris Cline stepping into the role.
The board voted to sign and receive a community corrections grant agreement for the "court of Collin Police adult probation department" (as recorded in the meeting transcript); Commissioner Finley was recorded as abstaining on that vote, while Commissioners Holiday and Copley voted yes.
The board received and signed a resolution of necessity for a levy for the Lawrence County Board of Developmental Disabilities and approved a motion to meet in executive session with Brigham Anderson and Ralph Klein regarding real estate and a legal contract. All recorded votes on those two items were yes by Commissioners Finley, Holiday and Copley.
All listed motions were moved and seconded during the meeting; the meeting minutes show roll-call votes recorded for each item. No ordinances, second readings, or contested policy changes were taken during the public portion of the June 17 session.
