Community Development Director Michael Allen outlined the committee’s purpose as facilitating partnerships and maximizing opportunities related to major events including the upcoming FIFA World Cup, the Super Bowl and the 2028 Olympic Games. The council appointed Council member Keldorff and Director Allen to the committee and named Planning Commissioner Melissa McCaverty, Recreation and Parks Commissioner Kelly Watson, Arts and Culture Advisory Committee member Michael Scheps, Chamber of Commerce CEO Marsha Hansen, and community member Tessa Rasmussen as members.
The council did not adopt a separate budget or specific event strategy at the meeting; the committee will coordinate with city departments and external partners on outreach and partnership opportunities.
