Lucas County approves multiple facilities projects: bathroom, demolition, parking, windows, cabling and field operations
The Lucas County Board of Commissioners on June 2 approved a package of facilities actions that will advance several county capital and maintenance projects.

Patrick Holland of the county facilities department presented the items. Commissioners authorized advertising for bids to renovate six bathrooms at the Lucas County Emergency Services Center (22144 Monroe Street); to demolish vacant buildings at 460 and 463 Terminal Road to clear sites for potential redevelopment; to make parking-lot improvements at 3815 West Sylvania Avenue adjacent to the Sheriff Services building; and to restore and stabilize aging windows at 701 Adams Street, where interior glazing units are cracked and exterior stabilizing film and some frame replacements were recommended.

The board awarded a cabling upgrade contract to Lave Electric Company for technology redundancy at the Lucas County coroner’s office, 2595 Arlington Avenue, accepting Lave as the lowest responsive bidder over other bids from Westfield and Unity Marketing Technology Solutions. The approved scope included six redundancy drops.

Commissioners also approved an addendum to the management agreement with Sabrina Ring Girls Softball for management of softball and baseball fields at the Lucas County Recreation Center for the remainder of the 2025 season. Holland said the property was acquired in December 2023 and that prior asbestos and hazardous-material removals and building demolition had occurred. No additional county funding was authorized for field management; revenue generated through operations may be used to reimburse prior owner advances as described in the existing agreement.

Commissioner Cabecki noted that the commissioners are legally responsible for county buildings and structures and that routine maintenance and improvements are paid with taxpayer dollars. The motions to advertise and award contracts were moved and approved by unanimous roll call.
