A consultant presented the 50% review of a business plan for the El Segundo Aquatic Center at the July 1 City Council meeting, offering three potential operating models and recommending further expense reviews, market research, and analysis of adding a plunge pool.
Mayor pro tem Ryan Baldino told staff the council should prioritize cost recovery for the main aquatic center while treating the plunge primarily as a recreational amenity. Council member Michelle Kjeldorf requested an audit of utilization hours for each pool to identify ways to reduce expenses. Council member Lance Giroux questioned the consultant’s regional comparisons to Los Angeles County pools and asked the firm to benchmark against nearby South Bay facilities such as Redondo Beach and Mira Costa. Council member Boyles requested a pro forma analysis of revenues and expenses based on market data.
After discussion the council received and filed the report; no rate changes or final operator decisions were made during the meeting.
