Lucas County commissioners approve engineer applications for road resurfacing, roundabout and federal safety grant

The Lucas County Board of Commissioners on a unanimous roll call authorized the county engineer to revise maintenance space for petition 10-74 (Stony Creek Plat) and to prepare and submit applications for state and local transportation funding, including projects to resurface Frankfurt and OB roads and to construct the Angola and Chrissy roundabout. The board also authorized an application for fiscal year 2025 Safe Streets and Roads for All demonstration grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Engineer Panuski, presenting the items for the County Engineer's Office, said: "Item number 1 is approval of revision of maintenance space for petition 10 74, Stony Creek Platform, Future Plats. Stony Creek Plat 5 is imminent and this essentially is to incorporate those lots into this petition." He summarized the planned transportation projects and the federal grant: "1 is a resurfacing of Frankfurt And OB Roads and the second is for the construction of the Angola And Chrissy Roundabout. And item 3 is the authorization to apply for fiscal year 2025, safe streets and roads for all applying and demonstration grants from the US Department of Transportation, essentially is to pay for a variety of items in our transportation safety action plan, as well as some demonstration projects around the county that would be short term in nature."
Panuski presented the three items as a package; there was no substantive debate recorded. Commissioner Lopez moved approval of the items; the clerk called the roll and Commissioners Lopez, Gerken and Cabecki voted yes. The action was recorded as approved.
The approvals allow the County Engineer's Office to prepare and file applications with the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC), state capital improvement or local transportation improvement programs and with the U.S. Department of Transportation for the Safe Streets demonstrations. Specific project approvals do not guarantee funding; applications must be submitted and awards granted before work begins.
The board adjourned and scheduled its next session for July 15 at 11:00 a.m.
