State plans major I-5 Ship Canal Bridge repair; Everett promotes transit outreach

Administrative staff told the council that the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin major repairs on the I‑5 Ship Canal Bridge the weekend of July 18.
Staff said the northbound I‑5 lanes will be fully closed from I‑90 up to 40th Street beginning the weekend of July 18 (full closure Friday night through Monday morning). For approximately a month afterward, northbound traffic will be reduced to two lanes; staff said the multiweek work runs into late August with a final full-closure weekend near Aug. 21. Drivers should use I‑405 or alternate routes. The staff presentation urged commuters to consider transit options and said Community Transit has an online travel page and a workshop July 8 at the Marysville Library with commuter information and a free ORCA card for attendees.
The staff update also noted Everett Transit has opened public outreach for its long-range plan and will host information booths at the farmer’s market on July 13 and other community events; the outreach period for Everett Transit was described as July 1–30. Staff did not present an action item for council vote; the remarks were informational.
No new city budget or mitigation measures for local traffic impacts were proposed during the meeting; staff recommended transit and travel alternatives while WSDOT completes repairs.
