Hamilton County Council approved an additional appropriation of $2,825,000 for the Airport Authority Capital Fund to begin a project extending the airport’s main taxiway and to clear the way for new hangar construction.
An Airport Authority representative told the council the extension will reroute the main taxiway around the ramp to improve aircraft movement and enable a private hangar development: “we’re bringing our main taxiway around the ramp... it’s gonna help free up aircraft moving quite a bit on the ramp,” the speaker said on the record. The representative said the county expects federal funding to reimburse much of the cost but needs the money in hand to sign a contract and begin work; staff said they hope to start construction in August and that at least some federal money was expected within weeks.
The council approved the appropriation on roll call; all members voted aye: Ken Alexander; Brad Beaver; Tim Griffin; Sue Mackey; Amy Masalomani; Steve Nation; Mark Hall.
The meeting included a related vote to transfer $405,000 within the Aviation Authority Capital Fund to align projects administratively; staff described that transfer as administrative and not substantive to the board’s policy decisions.
