Hamilton County Council approved an interlocal agreement with the Town of Cicero that clarifies maintenance responsibility for segments of 230 Sixth Street and nearby roads if Cicero successfully annexes the area.
County staff said the town approached the county seeking a cooperative arrangement. Under the agreement, if Cicero annexes the corridor west of U.S. 31, the county would continue to be responsible for maintenance standards and would retain applicable road funding that the county would have received while the roads remained in county jurisdiction.
Mister Sullivan told the council the arrangement is conditional: “this is all a big if. This is if Cicero were to successfully annex this area,” and he noted that annexation laws make such actions difficult. The agreement is intended as a proactive, collaborative approach requested by the town, he said.
Council members voted to approve the interlocal; the roll call recorded all ayes: Ken Alexander; Brad Beaver; Tim Griffin; Sue Mackey; Amy Masalomani; Steve Nation; Mark Hall.
