South Orangetown board certifies 2025–26 budget and tallies for two board seats

The South Orangetown Central School District Board of Education on May 20, 2025 approved a resolution declaring the results of the district’s annual meeting, certifying passage of the 2025–26 budget and recording vote totals for two board seats.

The resolution, presented by the district clerk and read into the record, recorded 1,685 votes in favor of the budget proposition and 556 votes against it. The board then recorded vote totals for two seats: Stephen Finn received 1,456 votes; John Savage received 1,214 votes; David Sansone received 1,076 votes. The board approved the resolution by motion during the meeting.

The resolution notes that inspectors of election counted and canvassed the votes and delivered signed statements of canvass, including machine printouts and absentee ballot tallies, which were attached to the resolution and made part of the public record. The board moved to approve the resolution after the canvass was read and the motion passed by voice vote.

The board also moved to adjourn to an executive session earlier in the evening to receive legal counsel; the vote-count resolution was read and adopted after the inspectors’ canvass was presented. Board members recorded at roll call included Katie Gravino, Diana Corbell and Rob Coleman; board member David Sansone was absent earlier in the evening due to a family emergency, as recorded at roll call.

The district clerk was listed in meeting remarks and thanked by the superintendent for election-related work earlier in the agenda. The approved resolution directs the district clerk to record the results in the district minutes.

The board took no additional budget- or election-related votes during the portion of the meeting covered in the record.
