A representative of the Laredo Police Department’s Community Relations Unit said the department hosted the third annual Bike Rodeo and Summer Safety Fair at Divine Mercy Park in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation and about 20 local sponsors to educate children and parents on bicycle and vehicle safety.
The Community Relations Unit representative, Community Relations Unit, Laredo Police Department, said, "So today, we are celebrating the third annual, bike rodeo and summer safety fair, hosted by the Laredo Police Department in partnership with TxDOT and 20 other local, sponsors who have contributed to the success of this event, allowing us to continue to educate our youth and parents on safety tips, not just when riding bikes out in public roads, but also keeping our kids safe in vehicles." The speaker identified Divine Mercy Park as the event location.
A parent attending the event said the fair gave families visible options for safe summer activities. The parent, Parent/attendee, said, "Able to see as a mom, I'm able to see what the local authorities and, you know, the local organizations are able to offer for our children as far as safety and, summer events so that the kids can get out and not just be in front of a screen."
The Community Relations Unit representative also thanked Law Enforcement leadership and TxDOT partners, saying, "We wanna thank everybody from the Laredo Police Department, our chief, chief Mike Rodriguez, TxDOT, Ms. Blanca Castro Trevino, for making this event successful and partnering with us and trusting the Community Relations Unit to bringing events like this to the community of Laredo so that we can continue to encourage trust and education, and just allowing the community to engage with our officers and other law enforcement agencies as we try to teach and educate people to stay safe and more than anything to have a great time, while engaging with our officers." The remarks thanked Chief Mike Rodriguez and Blanca Castro Trevino by name as partners in the event.
Organizers framed the fair as both safety education and community outreach: teaching bicycle skills and car-seat safety while creating informal opportunities for residents to meet officers and partner agencies. The event was described as continuing an annual series; no formal policy or funding action was announced.
