At its July 1 reorganization meeting the Huntington Union Free School District Board of Education adopted several operational and instructional plans for the 2025–26 school year, including a district chemical hygiene plan, a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) plan, an updated districtwide physical education plan and updated school counseling plans. The board also adopted a list of religious holidays for state aid computation and approved continued participation in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program, including the districtmeal pricing schedule for 2025–26.
The board voted unanimously to adopt the districtwide chemical hygiene plan, which the superintendent said was updated for clarity and to reflect the district's management of laboratory chemicals. The plan was adopted "in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.145," per the motion. The chemical hygiene plan lists safety measures, roles and responsibilities, inventory and waste-disposal protocols, emergency response procedures and training needs.
Trustees approved the MTSS plan after officials described that it was reviewed by a districtwide team with teacher and administrator representation and revised over two work sessions. The MTSS plan documents how academic interventions are provided and notes updated documentation and clearer definitions of acronyms to improve accessibility for parents and the community.
The updated district physical education plan reflects current enrollment and outdoor facilities and adds programs including flag football, yoga and pickleball; the superintendent noted the plan will be submitted to the New York State Education Department and may remain in effect for up to seven years under NYSED guidelines.
The board also adopted revised school counseling plans that rename and clarify roles (for example, changing references from "guidance" to "school counseling") and add programs such as mentoring and PBIS initiatives to support student engagement and well-being.
Finally, the board adopted the district's list of religious holidays for state aid computation and approved continuing participation in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program; the meeting minutes record that the board set school meal prices for the 2025–26 year as part of that action. All motions to adopt the plans and program participation were approved unanimously.
