Two Walmart representatives addressed the EDC and community partners about local business services, upcoming store upgrades and community support initiatives.
A Walmart representative told the room the Cleveland store will undergo a 14-week remodel beginning Aug. 10, 2026, with a planned grand reopening on Nov. 13, 2026. The representative said the store will hire additional workers for the remodel and that categories and layout will change to reflect a 'store of the future' model.
The speakers described business services available through Walmart Business, including bulk purchasing, curbside pickup, tax-exempt shopping for eligible organizations and multiple account users for businesses. They said college students receive a 50% discount on Walmart Plus and recounted prior disaster assistance and volunteer support during recent severe weather events.
Tim, a second Walmart representative, said the store had installed a Raven Volt generator on the property so the store can remain operational during power outages and be a point of stability for the community during storms.
The Walmart representatives requested that local nonprofits contact the store about grants and volunteer support and left informational packets and QR codes for business sign-ups. No EDC action or funding approvals were requested or taken during the presentation.
Next steps: Walmart staff asked nonprofits and city staff to follow up directly to discuss grant or volunteer opportunities; no formal city partnership or agreement was presented at the meeting.
