Police told the Select Board they used building camera footage to identify a Sunbelt Rentals tractor-trailer that turned on recently paved asphalt in a town parking lot and damaged the new surface. Deputy Police Chief Ted Washburn said investigators secured high-definition video of the vehicle and obtained contact information for the rental company.
Washburn said he has contacted the paving contractor to get an estimate for repairs and planned to contact Sunbelt Rentals or its insurer so the company could arrange repairs. Police and staff discussed placing temporary signage to discourage turn‑arounds on the lot while the surface cures.
The board authorized staff to obtain an estimate of repair costs and to notify the rental company’s insurance carrier as appropriate. Police said the company appears to be a national firm with local contacts and that they will follow up once the town has a repair estimate.
