Committee recommends confirmation of two Seattle Planning Commission reappointments

The Seattle City Council Land Use Committee voted to recommend confirmation of two reappointments to the Seattle Planning Commission on July 2, 2025.
Vanessa Murdoch, executive director of the Seattle Planning Commission, briefed the committee on the two nominees and their experience. She said Caleb Tewolde is “associate director of leadership development at Rainier Scholars” and currently co-chairs the commission’s land, east and transportation committee. Murdoch described Diana Quintanar Solares as a “senior vice president at WSP focusing on urban innovation and mobility” with experience in sustainable transportation and public space work in Mexico City.
The committee moved to recommend confirmation of appointments 3216 and 3217. Chair Mark Solomon stated the motion and the clerk called a roll; Vice Chair Strauss, Councilmember Ryck and Chair Solomon recorded “yes” votes, producing a 3-0 committee recommendation. The committee record notes that the full City Council will consider the confirmations at its July 8, 2025 meeting.
The planning commission positions are three-year terms; the agenda listed terms running to April 15, 2028. Murdoch said planning commissioners are appointed by the mayor and city council and serve in an advisory, volunteer capacity on land use, housing, transportation and livability issues.
The committee did not raise additional questions at the briefing and did not take further action beyond the recommendation. The appointment recommendations will be transmitted to the council clerk for consideration on the July 8 agenda.
