Carmel approves drone equipment purchase to expand police DFR program

The City of Carmel Board of Public Works and Safety approved a $91,621 contract July 2 with General Pacific Inc. to buy drones and supporting hardware for the Carmel Police Department.
Deputy Chief Brady Myers told the board the purchase “will allow us to continue to build our DFR program for the Carmel Police Department.” He said the contract includes equipment for two new drone launch areas and “hardware that will be necessary to support that.” The board moved and voted to approve the purchase.
The board recorded the standard motion and vote; there was no extended debate recorded. The equipment will be added to the department’s inventory and funded through the department’s procurement process.
