Board approves state‑funded 1.5% bonuses for constitutional officers, registrar, electoral board and eligible social‑services staff

The Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors authorized a series of one‑time, state‑funded 1.5% bonuses at its July 2 meeting after provisions in the 2025 state budget set aside those funds for specific local roles.

The board first approved a 1.5% bonus for constitutional officers and compensation‑board funded positions and authorized a supplemental appropriation of $42,100 that the county expects to be covered by compensation‑board funding. County staff said the bonus funding for those positions is provided by the state and does not require local matching funds.

Later in the meeting, the board also authorized a 1.5% bonus for the Fluvanna County registrar and for members of the county’s electoral board in a motion citing Code of Virginia section 15.2‑1508, as requested by the State Board of Elections. The board then authorized a 1.5% monetary bonus for eligible Department of Social Services employees; staff said the DSS bonus is performance‑based and tied to processing and exceeding targets for medical‑assistance renewals and likewise does not require a local funding match.

County attorney and finance staff advised the board that a local code section authorizing bonuses is on the books and that formal ordinance changes or additional public hearings were not required for these items; the board proceeded with motions to approve each bonus distribution. All motions passed unanimously.

The bonuses are one‑time payments and staff said they will be processed per county payroll and described as state reimbursements where applicable. Supervisors said the measures were intended to recognize front‑line employees and locally elected officials who were covered under the state budget provisions.
