Travis Pate told the council on July 1 that he attended the state kickoff for America250 and urged South Ogden officials to consider local events and projects to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
Pate described the America250 goals—educate, engage and unite—and suggested local activities such as a Walk250 challenge, a lapel pin, and partnering with the forthcoming Utah state museum. He urged the council to consider dedicating a park or space for commemoration and to coordinate archives with the state museum.
City staff responded that former Council Member Luis Lopez is on the statewide planning committee and that the city has a local planning group that includes Council Member Hyer and event staff. Staff said a transmittal with more details would be delivered to the council in about a week, and they thanked Pate for representing the city at the state event. No formal action was taken at the meeting.
