Staff explained the extension will allow the Round Barn — currently undergoing rehabilitation — to receive domestic water service and support a sprinkler system. The board noted the park district (referred to in discussion) will be responsible for tapping onto the main and running service from the main into the Round Barn; the village’s work is limited to installing the main itself and does not include the park district’s internal connections or tap fees.
Board members expressed support for the project and said the Round Barn could generate future tax revenue once rehabilitated and reopened. The contract award passed on a roll-call vote. Staff said the main is a 12-inch line and that future extensions farther up toward Route 52 could be considered if needed.
